28 一月 2020 | 08:30am – 10:30am

The introduction of Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 before the lower house of the Parliament marks a new milestone for data privacy in India. The 2019 PDP Bill, and the Data Protection Authority to be created under it, will have the power to impact all types of business and industry. The Bill also touches upon crucial aspects relating to the use of anonymized and non-personal data held by businesses. While largely aligned with the EU GDPR, the Bill does deviate in certain aspects which is likely to have an impact on businesses operating in India.

The Data Protection and Technology Team at Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan is organizing a breakfast briefing session in Gurgaon and Mumbai on the updates to the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019. This session will be led by Ms. Charanya Lakshmikumaran, Partner, L&S with Mr. Prashant Phillips, Partner, L&S.

The session will cover the major provisions of the Bill, as well as practical implications, such as:

  • Which type of companies or businesses will be impacted?
  • How would such businesses need to change their data storage and processing vendors?
  • Implementation Challenges – short-term and long term
  • My company is EU GDPR compliant. Do I need to make any additional changes in my processes?
  • Hospitality/travel aggregators operating within India but catering to EU nationals – is GDPR applicable on the Indian hospitality sector? What measures need to be implemented?
