Introduction to BIS
We are pleased to share June 2025 issue of LKS BIS Amicus, covering developments with respect to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
This issue covers various news items on recent developments around BIS, a detailed article titled “Understanding the QCO on household, commercial and electrical appliances”, and updates relating to Quality Control Orders (QCOs).
The article, which is also available here, discusses the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025 which supersedes the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2024 and will come into effect from 19 March 2026.
The part on QCO Updates covers QCOs due for implementation in the months of June, July, and August 2025, new QCOs notified in May 2025 in the Official Gazette, QCOs notified by India on the WTO-TBT portal in May 2025, and extensions of the dates of implementation of already notified QCOs.
Further, this newsletter by the LKS Supply Chain Team highlights that companies in the Machinery and Electrical Equipment sector, Tool manufacturing sector, and Chemical and Petrochemical sector are likely to be impacted by the QCOs to be implemented in the months of June, July and August this year.
